Right now, no student health centers on California public university campuses offer the abortion pill.
Once a student has made the decision to end a pregnancy, they are forced to go off campus to seek care, which can mean taking time away from class or a job, or seeing a provider they don’t know. It can be difficult to raise the money to travel and pay for care or find transportation. These barriers fall hardest on students of color, low-income students, and first-generation students.
The abortion pill is safe, effective care that can—and should—be offered at every CA university health center. The College Student Right to Access Act would help ensure that California university students have access to the reproductive health services they need, including the abortion pill.
With the future of abortion access in question across the country, California can take the lead.
I join with students and their allies in calling on university administrators, lawmakers, and our governor to support abortion care on campus.
